Newbe here. I'm Steve and actually from just inside NW Durham. I used to live North Tyneside in my teens and regularly travelled up to the Cheviots for winter walks. Just done a few winter and early spring walks in the Cheviots just to reacquaint myself. Look forward to contributing in some way.

Hi Steve, welcome, and thanks for posting; just read your post on the walking forum uk; very interesting and love the pics, especially the last one of the set. Some days you can see for miles! I too am from North Tyneside, Whitley Bay to be more precise, long, long time ago!

lol, I know Shiremoor very wel; the tales I could tell of the taxi fares to and from The White Horse or the Legion back in the day, when I was a taxi driver on night shift, working from Whitley Bay, brings it all back. It was a long time ago, seems like yesterday!

Nostalgia! The legion now long gone, I used to go there on a Saturday morning as a kid to watch movies?. The white horse was it not the Grey horse? at the bottom of Park road?
I was over there a couple of weeks ago at the Great Outdoors shop.

Yes, it was the Grey Horse (I`m going back years); is it still there? Re the Legion, I worked behind the bar there for about 6 months. There was also a pub on the Main Road through Shiremoor (Park Rd?)called the Bueamont - think that was the name! It was (is) very popular when I was taxi ing. I also recall the Dickinson store in what is now Boundary Mills. The same building belonged to a company called English Numbering Machines back in the 70`s. They sold up to Dickinson. I also seem to recall some prefrabricated houses off Park Road, they were built very quickly in the early 50`s when homes were in short supply after the war.
