Today’s walk wasn’t going to be very long or very hard, Yet again I had been put out of action for the best part of two weeks, this time due to the skin splitting open right where I weight bare on my arty leg, didn’t look that bad but it proved to be extremely painful when there was weight on it, and just to make matters worse, each time I tried walking the tear just got bigger. So for the last few weeks all my movement was done by using crutches, which proved to be a right pain, have you ever tried to get on and do every day stuff with these things? Anyway the wound healed up and after a suitable amount of time I decided its time to get out and put it under a bit of pressure.
Now I am stupid at times, but even I am not daft enough to head out into the hills without giving things a test run, so today I chose to do a small beach walk round about 5 miles or so.
I decided that I would park up at the links then head along the golf course then the coastal path to Low Newton, (grab a bite to eat and drink at the ship inn) then do a beach walk back to Dunstanburgh Castle then head back to the car at the Links, nothing to get excited about.
I chose this route for several reasons one was I have walked along this way on several occasions so there would be no surprises for me, there is always a lot of people around this time of the year so if the worst should happen there is someone around, a lot of the walk is near the golf course so I could always mug some golfer and nick his buggy to get back to the car. And it is a very nice area.
THE Weather did its best to make life tricky for me as it was extremely windy, in fact walking along the beach felt like I was being sand blasted at times.
The good news was that my leg took it all in its stride and didn’t split open so I will call it a success however after not walking for a couple of weeks I was well knackered by the time I got back to the car, and my back was doing its best to kill me with back ache (however I believe this was down to the fact I wasn’t walking correctly and as my confidence grows I should get back to normal and the ache will go)
A few photos enjoy :-
