Got off to a very late start, due to the fact, that I decided to have an extra ten minutes in bed, which promptly turned into an extra hour or so.
So the walk today wasn’t going to be very long especially as I also had to be back home by 4:30 or I would be in big trouble with my better half,
So I decided to go to old Rookland, it was low level so I shouldn’t be bothered by any snow/ice that was still lying about.
The walk
Parked up at Clennell hall headed up the hill to the radio mast, from there I decided to leave the footpath and basically walk along the top/side of Clennell Hill to the old hill fort know as Camp Knowe, well what a surprise! this old fort looked like all the rest of the old hill forts that are scattered around, you know grassy mounds ridges ect, nothing to get excited about, what it did do however was give good views of the surrounding areas.
Anyway from there I walked along ridge to the summit of Silverton Hill then promptly retraced my steps back to where a footpath heads down towards Rookland Sike from there a stroll up to the old ruins at old Rookland, after a quick cup of coffee and sarnie it was a simple case of heading back down Rookland Sike and following it down to where it joins the river Alwin from there it was a stroll back along the red road back to the car at Clennell.
First photo taken just past the radio mast looking towards Clennell Hill and a distant Silverton hill
Looking back down at the farm at Clennel. (The ridge on the right of the photo is one of the grassy rings that make up the hill fort. I told you that it wasn’t worth getting excited about)
Looking down at the red road & river Alwin
Some good looking bloke who is available for modelling work (very cheap rates)
Part of Silverton
Again looking down
Looking back at the old hill fort (at least you can see something well sort off)
Looking towards the Dodd & Puncherton Hill
Down & towards Kidland forest
Same again
Still gaining height looking back towards the hill fort
Heading up Silverton Hill
First sight of old Rookland
Heading down towards Rookland sike
Glance back
Old Rookland
Heading back down
Weasel Sike
Heading down
At the river Alwin
Where the sike meets the river, I was here last year it was possible to step across here .it looks as if there has been a lot of water erosion
Looking back at the valley I have just walked down
On my way to the bridge (looking back)
The last few shots are taken from the red road as I walked back to the car showing the same hills that I was walking along the tops only a few hours earlier.
The weather was spot on today, bright, sunny, but with a cooling wind to prevent you from getting to hot.
I just wish that I got up earlier; I could have extended this walk quite easily if I had more time.
However the views from up top make this small walk well worth it.
