These cast iron signposts were made by The Alnwick Foundry, they are believed to date back to the 1920`s. The foundry no longer exists, it was demolished to make way for a supermarket (Morrisons); a small number of signs have survived to the present day. I have been photographing the signs for some weeks now and have built up a small/ish collection of a dozen or so. The majority of which are on very minor or unclassified roads, `off the beaten track` and, sad to say, most (nb.not all) of them are in poor condition, in varying states of disrepair (so might we all be after 100 years exposed to the elements). An example is given in the first image, a signpost at Bolton Village, situated opposite the church, and minus its cone-shaped finial (top). Imagine then my surprise - nay, my joy on seeing just one of these magnificent and long-neglected signposts restored to its former glory. A job extremely well done, I would say, and a credit to the person who carried out the work. I will post more images through time, as I build up my collection. Meanwhile, if you have any pictures of these signposts, or any information on the posts themselves and the Alnwick Foundry, then I would very much welcome your contributions.

Shame about the `furniture` on this signpost situated on the Alnham to Prendwick road at the junction for Little Ryle and Unthank

Take the Yetlington turn off at Callaly for this one, it`s at the bottom of the hill, right in front off you at the junction (turn left for Yetlington).
