Anyone thinking of driving to Rothbury over the next few days might like to know that the B6341 road into and through the village of Thropton will be closed 19th - 24th July between the hours 8.00 - 17.00. Five days in all, with another closure on the morning of 25th July between the hours of 8.00 - 12.00. Morpeth Council have in their wisdom decided to close the road off completely in order to carry out resurfacing work. Drivers will be unable to access Thropton via the B6341 during this period, though there is a rumour going around that some exceptions may be made. Very helpful!
Not only the road through Thropton is being resurfaced, but NB: the steep bank leading down into the village is also being resurfaced (not before time in both cases). This means traffic wanting to turn right at the Cross Keys public house will be unable to do so. If you`re thinking of driving out Snitter way, Low, High Trewitt, Netherton, Biddlestone, Alwinton and beyond, or to places like Lorbottle, Callaly, Alnham, Whittingham, etc better find another route! Likewise if you`re wanting to drive over to Hepple, Otterburn, Elsdon and beyond from Rothbury, again, better find another route! All these places will be inaccessable from Rothbury via the B6341. This of course means that people living in Netherton, Biddlestone, Hepple, Alwinton, Alnham, etc etc etc (the list of places is exhaustive) will have to find alternative ways of reaching Rothbury. Heaven help those whose only alternative is the Netherton - Whittingham road. Anyone who`s ever driven that road will take my meaning, you take your life in your hands on that road!
