Lidl, from Thursday 12th September.
Waterproof Jacket: £14.99, Bought one of these on Thursday, c/w hood, drawstring at hem, not breathable but vented, first time worn in heavy rain today (Sun), did the business, kept the rain out. I`m average build but only the very largest size in stock, size 46 would fit me.
Walking Socks: £2.49, I`ve had socks from Lidl before, some have been fine, others tend to leave welts on the skin, thereby creating the possibility of circulation problems. Not good!
Sports Watch: £19.99, Bought one of these on Thursday, has, among other things, altitude settings, thermometer, and a built in digital compass which works reasonable well after its been calibrated (turn the device clockwise round and round on a level surface for minimum 40 seconds), but I`ve no confidence in its accuracy. I think if my life depended on an accurate compass bearing I`d be sticking with my good ol` trusted Silva.
O, and the thermometer, works, but it`s not accurate.
Trousers: I`ve got a pair of Lidl waterproof walking trousers that I wear daily; love them, very comfortable and a bargain at £9.99. That said, the style and the quality changes with every new batch, ie trousers bought today, will probably differ from trousers bought, say 6 weeks ago, eg I bought a pair on Thursday (12th), very poor quality, flimsy, thin material, poorly constructed, poor fit. These will be going back to Lidl for a refund.
In their favour Lidl have never quibbled about giving refunds, so long as you have the receipt.
Conclusion: There are some real bargains to be had, but be careful, some of the stuff is of very poor quality - you know the saying - you get what you pay for - socks especially, I mean, what else can you expect at £2.49 a pair, really!
